Outside of graduating from Sherwood, Coach Powell has other ties to MoCo. His dad was a longtime teacher and wrestling coach in the county.

I don't know Nomad if graduating from Sherwood is a strong tie to wanting to go to Wheaton or dad's Moco connections. Powell has a much stronger connection to me of coaching for some 17-years or so in PG County. Moreover, just a couple years ago he became the president of the PG County Football Coaches Association. Just recently he announced a two-day passing tournament in the next couple months at Bowie and Flowers. And most impactful aspect to me is Coach Powell has unfinished business of winning a state title in the program at Flowers he built. Moving on to Wheaton can happen of course but I just do not see Powell just walking away from Flowers to start anew at Wheaton of all places. Coach Shields of Suitland and Coach Parrish of Wise moved on after big connections to PG County BUT they lived where they moved on to. Where does Coach Powell? If it's Moco, then you have something......

But if he does, At least it wouldn’t be as much as a culture shock vs someone who was coming into the county with no personal experience of the area.

Just speculation (no inside knowledge), but it could be that the hire at Wheaton is dependent upon the MCPS hiring timeline. MCPS is currently hiring internal transfers. Wheaton may be waiting to determine if they can get a potential coach in the building (or even hired by MCPS) before confirming the football hire.

Seems as though Wheaton is trying to be thorough. From my understanding, the 2nd rd of interviews was last week and they told candidates they'd know by this Friday. I agree w/ MocoFan, they're probably working on getting someone in the building.
- Pretty sure that's why the last coach left. Maybe learning from their mistakes? But what do I know.
