Phenomenal hire by Sherwood in bringing Cilento back home. Things will get very interesting in the county as expect Sherwood to be in the same sentence as NW and QO in less than 4 years. Pat is extremely well connected in the college ranks, look no more than his college placement at Bullis. Not to mention he is an excellent coach. If he can keep some home grown talent in Olney from being scooped up by neighbor Good Counsel, even if its just 1 - 2 kids a year, that would be huge. Expect Sherwood to be a county power very soon, this is a good thing for MOCO. He has definitely been more successful against QO than most. IIRC he was Sherwood's HC in 2010 when they beat QO, and of course swept QO in the 17-18 series at Bullis.

Expect Sherwood to be a county power very soon, this is a good thing for MOCO. Let’s not forget that he had the benefit a big recruiting budget while he was successful at Bullis. Alot of talent came from PG and his best QB came fro New Jersey, no other than Duane Haskins. While a lot of the talent on Bullis football roster came from all around the Beltway, a good junk of it was from within MOCO. And you are correct, Bullis benefitted immensely under the sports obsessed headmaster (Boardman) and Pat had a ton of resources at his disposal relative to his IAC peers. Regardless, Pat is an exceptional coach. As former assistant coach, up until this past Fall, MOCO football has been pretty dreadful to follow given how many lopsided victories we would see on a Friday night. It's been the QO, Damascus, and NW show for the past 5 years (if not longer). This past fall was fun to watch to see the sustained emergence of WJ, rise of even BCC, Churchill, and Blake. Pat will make Sherwood extremely competitive in a short amount of time, you can count on that.

Schools that are still open are really throwing themselves behind the 8 ball sad to see a few mid tier programs not filled quickly because they can become uncompetitive quickly.

Something that Sherwood has not had with their last two coaching stents and something I believe to be somewhat important. It's a good hire.

Last I heard he wasn't. That might have something to do with it. How about the new Crown HS. How close is that to opening? That might be a better fit back in his old stomping grounds.

I lime to no how he gon beat dem jags not say he wont but what about bullis say he will I don't particularly follow much private ball, so I'm not the one to answer your specific questions. Buttttt...there are plenty of other factors besides Bullis... Like I said before, he will be a MCPS employee, who will teach at Sherwood, and will be in the halls/on campus (something the last two Sherwood coaches were not); this is a bonus. Not to mention he played for Sherwood himself in the 90's and won a state title at Sherwood (I think he was the Post's MVP that year so I heard). He was also an assistant coach at Sherwood in the 00's and won a state title as an assistant coach. Throw in his leadership ability and head coaching experience at Bullis; and you have a great hire for Sherwood and the community.

Not to mention his father, Bob Cilento, was the AD at Sherwood for years. It is no surprise that Sherwood's success occurred during the Bob Milloy & Al Thomas eras, in which Pat has major ties to both. Home run hire - the community is excited!

List of coaching jobs that opened and who filled them Clarksburg (Ernie Williams) Hired Brandon Martin Einstein (Sean Loftus) BCC (Ben Minturn) Sherwood (Andrew Fields) Hired Pat Cilento Rockville (Jason Lomax) Wheaton now has a coaching vacancy. Coach Schwartzback has stepped down after a season unfortunately.
