I have no idea where these conversations divulge into ridicule of a team/program. Maybe there should be a time to enjoy the game we love to watch and stop being such a… any coach that is putting in his time and half the time Connor does doesn’t need this crap. This season is over. Let’s stop with the adolescent. My dad can beat your dad.

Debating whether someone is the greatest or second greatest coach in the history of a county hardly counts as criticism lol.

Dave Carruthers also had a reputation for excoriating every teenage boy that didn't kiss his ass. He had a .500 finals record at LHS, making it to states 4 of 14 seasons (vs Conner's 10 of 21). Carruthers also rode Rick Conner's defense to those UHS championships, and stopped making it there after Conner left UHS. Meanwhile, Conner showed up at LHS, dusted off a program that had been flailing for several years, and took them to states. Conner is the better Coach and the better leader. This is perfect example of why the latest loss is so sad.

As someone whose team also lost 4 finals in a row, it hurts no matter how you slice it. But all you can do really is keep knocking. Sometimes you're just unlucky enough to run into talented teams that are coached well enough to create too much of a gap.
How would people say this loss stacks up compared to the other 3? I would assume the 2018 loss was the least agonizing (though it was the closest) and 2021 was the most. On one hand, you didn't get dominated wire to wire like 2019, but it stings just as much in a different way to be competitive and fall just short.

Their little brother beat their asses not once but twice this season. New Market Dunkin was popping sunday morning not to many linganore folks in there my buddy went hunting and sent me a video of him crying on his tree stand wearing his black and red. LOL. How many state championships has Linganore Football won since Oakdale has had a varsity team? Anyone? 2017 doesn’t count btw, the 3A was an awful division. Walkersville and Oakdale slaughtered Linganore that year.

I’m not a Lancer diehard like so many here, but I would assume this one is the worst? Ethan Arneson is the county’s leading TD-scorer and most prolific rusher in school history, but you walk away without a ring. Plus, the only thing standing in your way is your cross town rival. Tough pill to swallow.

For what it’s worth
Loss to Franklin by a bomb and last second FG. Franklin had at least 1 D1 athlete, I think Villanova. Loss to Northern by 5 points. They had 3 D1 athletes. Loss to Damascus 1 NFL player and 1-2 other D1’s. Loss to Oakdale 3 D1 players.
Think Linganore does pretty well making it to the Ship so often with average Joes , some great HS players and a few good high school players that give it their all.

My take, Linganore did about everything they could have done and they left it all on the field. That's all anyone can ask of them. It seemed like some people were holding-out hope that they could bully the Bears up front but that seemed pretty unlikely after the first game. Oakdale did the one thing they absolutely had to do with a kid like Arneson in the backfield. They rolled their MLB down to NG, loaded-up the box, and dared the Lancers to throw the football. ...and to their credit, Linganore took what they were given and made the most of it. ..and they didn't quit. I thought we were about to see a blowout after that first quarter but they clawed their way back into the game somehow. ...and then again late in the 4th when they were down by 3 scores. It never really felt like Linganore was winning but I'd be a liar if I told you I wasn't a little nervous in the final minutes. I imagine it's how Damascus fans must have felt last year.
Yeah, it sucks to make it to the championship and lose 4 times in a row but this was hardly Linganore's worse loss as far as the rivalry is concerned. That easily goes to the 56-7 shellacking they received in 2018, another year they made it to Annapolis. Heck, last year's loss was worse in my opinion because by the end of that game the kids just looked like they were ready for it to be over. I didn't see anything close to that on Saturday. It was simply a matter of Oakdale having more. Congrats to both teams on an excellent season.

Playoffs this year against Oakdale. (Ignoring the first round for obvious reasons).
Sherwood 49-14
Oakland Mills 56-6
City College 57-20
Linganore 42-35
How do these results support the idea that Linganore is not well coached? Every other team in the playoffs got blown out. The only team that did better against Oakdale all year was Milford Mill.
Linganore traditionally is vulnerable to good passing attacks. This year's team seemed better than others, with Mason Farster intercepting repeatedly, for example. And, they seemed faster sideline to sideline than previous years. But Linganore does not traditionally produce a lot of all-state defensive backs. I think that's due to the demographics that Linganore recruits from. Frederick produces a lot of good WRs and DBs, Linganore, not so much.

Maybe it's a bit uncouth of me to say it, given the solemn undertones the conversation has now taken, but the thought of your buddy crying in his tree stand, in red and black, is hilarious. ...and it's SO New Market. ...the crossroads of the rivalry. People need to lighten up and celebrate it for what it is. We've got two great football teams in the same town. That's pretty cool.

Here's how it started.
"Since the juggernaut team of 2009, which I believe most coaches could have won with, he is 1-5 in finals. Some sad stats on a stellar career. A few of those years, the team were considered overachieving to get to the finals, I give some grace. But in years to come, the memory of the greatest running back (in yardage & TD's) in FredCo history, playing for the greatest coach in FredCo history will have 0-2 record in state finals. Again, this is sad stat on a stellar career."
