Petruzello will be X-Factor for me. In the first game, he looked out of it and uncomfortable which didn’t help open up the running game whatsoever. If he plays the way he has been lately, I have Oakdale winning it. However they still need to finish drives in the RZ. Cant get stopped twice at the 1 and expect to win. Will be in attendance so hopefully it’ll be a good game Bingo. If I’m Oakdale, I want to make Petruzello beat me, not Arneson. Would not be shocked to see Oakdale give Linganore a 5-3 look (like Middletown did). Lancers ran the ball very well against Oakdale the first time, and easily could have scored 28 points. If I’m Oakdale, I am not so worried about giving up the occasional big play because I’m selling out to stop the run. I want QB to have to consistently make accurate throws under pressure to beat me. Last thing I want are the 10-15 play Arneson drives that grind the clock and keep the offense off the field. We’ll see if Stein and co agree.

Linganore with the upset. Arneson, arneson, and more arneson keeping the ball away from the Bears.

Could this be Rick Conner's swan song?

Could this be Rick Conner's swan song? Don’t hold me to it because I have no inside info, but the guy feels like a literal football lifer. I could see him coaching well into his 70s. I’m pretty sure he built a house right next to Linganore lol. But, you never know!

Split right down the middle. Hope this is as good as hyped. Best of luck to both teams

Trying my best to be kind to Linganore and Coach Connor's (he deserves it) but there are some really sad results to this years finals loss.
The 2014 Hall of Fame inductee coach, just lost his 4th straight finals appearance. Since the juggernaut team of 2009, which I believe most coaches could have won with, he is 1-5 in finals. Some sad stats on a stellar career. A few of those years, the team were considered overachieving to get to the finals, I give some grace. But in years to come, the memory of the greatest running back (in yardage & TD's) in FredCo history, playing for the greatest coach in FredCo history will have 0-2 record in state finals. Again, this is sad stat on a stellar career.

Again, this is sad stat on a stellar career. Yea it sucks, no doubt as Coach takes it personal. BUT, look at his teams, as they really overachieve based on its relative talent. He has a good feeder program, but not many D-1 guys coming through the door. His lineman are usually in the 5'10-6', 275 range if that. He gets a lot of skinny kids with average talent and builds them up in the weight room. After 2-3 years they are ready to compete and getting to a state final game is no small feat. I should mention his assistants as they do a bang-up job to include all those that provide support on game day. Two years ago, the Lancers had many 10th graders starting, the same who stated this weekend. Oakdale had three D-1 kids, and a QB that should be player of the year. All the kid did was place that ball in the hands of a D-1 receiver who was 5-6 inches taller than the Lancer DB's. He looked like a man amongst boys, but the Lancer DB's did compete. The Oakdale QB ran around the field often breaking 3rd and long situations with either a TD or first down. The other D-1 player played both ways on the LOS and he's going to the #1 team in the country-Michigan. The Lancer kids competed. Coach and his staff did the best they could against three great athletes. Other than the loss against a great Damascus team the last two losses have been competitive. I will take a loss any day in the state final vs. losing in an earlier round, always. These losses in no way lessens the man or the coach in any way. Congrats to Oakdale and I hope to see the other FREDCO teams continue to get better and better, with all FREDCO games getting more and more competitive. Iron sharpens Iron. Ps-The Lancers will be back as the sun rose this morning.

The interesting thing that I find, is that in many of his state final games, Linganore gets dominated in the opening few minutes: Damascus, Northern, Oakdale. Heck, even when they beat MMA they were forced to rally after falling behind. As an aside, Coach Conner is not the greatest head coach in FredCo history. IMO That honor belongs to Dave Carruthers. Coach Carruthers won 6 state championships in 12 years as the HC of Linganore and Urbana. Most impressively, under his leadership, the Hawks won 4 straight titles and reeled off 50 straight wins. Connor was on the Carruthers staff.

Welll said bubba. Amazing what armchair QBs say. If you know so much about the game, get in it and bring your team to Annapolis.

Dave Carruthers also had a reputation for excoriating every teenage boy that didn't kiss his ass. He had a .500 finals record at LHS, making it to states 4 of 14 seasons (vs Conner's 10 of 21). Carruthers also rode Rick Conner's defense to those UHS championships, and stopped making it there after Conner left UHS. Meanwhile, Conner showed up at LHS, dusted off a program that had been flailing for several years, and took them to states. Conner is the better Coach and the better leader.
