There's no denying that Oakdale has replaced Urbana as the Lancers biggest rival. Even though its cringy to even admit that as a traditionalist the Hawks have been replaced in a sense. The Saturday night game reminds me of the days when the Lancers/Hawks would play in the playoffs making it one of the biggest games in the state. Saturday will feel much like that but even bigger - this is for state. The Lancers even called Oakdale home for 2 years - undefeated on the Bears field, 2 trips to states, and winning a state title in 2009. In a short amount of time this rivalry has grown to be the biggest game in Fredco. Farwell to the days of Grubby, Moravec, Castor, Hayes vs Lenz, Fields, Butts, Barnes. We are now at Arneson, Petruzello, Farster vs Austin, Nichols, Thompson. Lancers vs Bears Roll Tribe! Let's Roll The Bears have 100% replaced Urbana as the main rival to Linganore. It’s both due to how good Oakdale is and how close these schools are. Oakdale was (literally) built from Linganore. Them meeting in a state final places them as the main rival to the lancers, in my opinion. Oakdale replacing Urbana as Linganores main rival is because most of the kids at LHS remember watching the lancers beating UHS for all of the years they have been fans of Linganore football. Also in the most recent years one of if not the only loss for the lancers comes from the bears.

But I will tell you that Oakdale is the most hated team in FREDCO which was once Urbana. Nothing the Lancer teams, all of them like better than beating Urbana.

Our Volleyball program was 4 years old in 2014 and became the first team in Frederick county history to win a state championship. I think the fact that Oakdale isn't eligible to play for the I70 trophy, despite literally being ON I70, right between Linganore and Urbana, is pretty hilarious. This is the first I've heard of them being "most hated" but I love it. I guess that's what happens when you disrupt deeply-cherished myths and narratives. Nobody likes it when you turn over their apple cart. LOL.

His role on the team has developed so much since the last time they played the bears. Linganore has had quite a few guys pop this year who might make a difference in this game. Like you said with Rawlett, he’s really rounded out into a good piece on offense and defense. He’s a consistent target and makes impact plays. I thought that Hauptman was a WR1 after his sophomore season, and he’s finally caught fire as of late. As a punter, he has been quite impressive. Perry, the sophomore corner is going to be a good one. Not the biggest, but plays the position well and has a nose for the ball. I feel like their lineup is littered with guys who have improved throughout the year. Not stars like Arneson, but really quality players that make a difference in a variety of ways. One thing that has always impressed me about Linganore is their ability to noticeably improve beginning of year to end. They also seem to do their best work in the second half of football games. A testament to great coaching and culture.

Petruzello will be X-Factor for me. In the first game, he looked out of it and uncomfortable which didn’t help open up the running game whatsoever. If he plays the way he has been lately, I have Oakdale winning it. However they still need to finish drives in the RZ. Cant get stopped twice at the 1 and expect to win. Will be in attendance so hopefully it’ll be a good game

Don't remember much about Oakdale track when my kid ran for Linganore, because Linganore was the Cross Country and County boys track champion. Urbana girls track was the juggernaut that never could be beaten. Oakdale had a nice football championship, but Linganore had some too. My kid started playing baseball and football for Urbana, played more baseball for LOUIA (Linganore, Oakdale, Urbana), and ran track and cross country for Linganore. One of the middle schools was a feeder to both Urbana and Linganore Highs. So the kids kind of all get to know each other.

Two big schools with incredible community support. Plus the general FREDCO people with nothing better to do (aka me).

Having looked directly across the stadium at the Linganore fan support in 2019 and then again at the Oakdale fan support in 2022...I totally agree that you are in for a fun night with big crowds on both sides. Great night for you Fredco guys, especially since these two teams are so darn close both distance and competition wise!
