I watched some film on Decatur and they appear to be legit contenders and of course Milford and DM are there too. Owings Mills is going to grab the overall top seed in 2A, but they are not getting much chatter or support. For example, Maxprep has them 7th in 2A. Is OM a case of week scheduling or are they under the radar?

Owings only marquee win to me is New Town. All other wins are lower shelf.

My hunch is that they will be vulnerable

My best guess at final standings is....... 1. Damascus 6-3 7.3 2. Walkersville 5-4 5.5 3. Wilde Lake 5-4 5.4 4. Glenelg 5-4 5.1 5. Poolesville 1-8 1.0 6. Hammond 0-9 0.0 7. Centennial 0-9 0.0 Would set up the following Week 10 games Damascus BYE Centennial AT Walkersville Hammond AT Wilde Lake Poolesville AT Glenelg Then the likely Week 11 games Wilde Lake AT Walkersville Glenelg AT Damascus Massey makes the home teams heavy favorites in Week 11 A collective 22-41 overall record would certainly deem this the weakest 2A West bracket of all-time, producing a winning percentage of just less than 35%, with a two seed at 5-4. The region indeed finished 22-41. The 2 seed is a respectable 6-3 but the overall total remains.

Is OM a case of week scheduling or are they under the radar? They play in Division II, the better of the two smaller class divisions. They beat New Town and Hereford. Owings Mills came back to beat Hereford on Friday, 20-15. New Town and Hereford have played three times in the last two seasons without the winner scoring more than 10 points in any one of the three. Those are the three legitimate teams in that division. However, they didn’t play Milford Mill, Perry Hall, or Dundalk. They’ll certainly have a legitimate shot at a semifinal berth. One other thing, they’ve been trending up for a minute. They went 0-10 in 2017. Travis Hall came in and they’ve been 40-15 ever since. Their ‘21 team that went 10-2 nearly beat Oakland Mills, who led the eventual state champions until the final seconds a week later. Douglass’ biggest fan on here can vouch for the fight if that Scorpions team. I went to both games, not much difference between those three teams. They have a decent dual threat quarterback, who has a nice weapon on the outside, and a decent running back. One of my friends of 45 years, former HoCo DPOY at Oakland Mills, Justin Payne (also former MCC star), is an assistant with the Eagles.

Glenelg lost at the 2 seed as well. 3&4 seed of the region advance to the quarters. Gotta love it

Congratulations to the Stephen Decatur Seahawks and their 2A State Title. A good competitive game!
It was a strange year in the 2AW, but for the past 10 years the 2A class has been the most diverse with 8 different schools wining titles. (Middletown/Douglas have 2, each teams titles where 4-5 years a part).
Who will it be next year?

Not sure how SD bounces back with star QB graduating. Walkersville will take a step back IMO, even though Ross and Bennett return. I don’t see HoCo putting anyone into the fold, nor BaltCo except for MMA. I will defer to Tide on what KI and NC return. I would assume Damascus will be good, but that 42-0 loss to Walkersville is hard to shake.

Nope, I would predict them to win the exact same games they did this year: Liberty, Poolesville, Brunswick, and Catoctin. Not exactly murders row. They lose both QBs, Menconi, and a lot on defense. When you make it to the state semi final, it doesn’t take much to take a step back! With a fairly weak 2A West, they very well could get past HoCo and into the quarters again. I just don’t see them being as good on the field as this year.

After considerable thought, I'm going with Milford Mill to bounce back from its lost to Decatur to reclaim the 2A title. I see Decatur as losing too much in graduation to repeat and other 2A teams besides Huntingtown just not having enough to build upon to claim the 2A title. Huntingtown - Milford Mill 2024 title game to me.....
