My best guess at final standings is....... 1. Damascus 6-3 7.3 2. Walkersville 5-4 5.5 3. Wilde Lake 5-4 5.4 4. Glenelg 5-4 5.1 5. Poolesville 1-8 1.0 6. Hammond 0-9 0.0 7. Centennial 0-9 0.0 Would set up the following Week 10 games Damascus BYE Centennial AT Walkersville Hammond AT Wilde Lake Poolesville AT Glenelg Then the likely Week 11 games Wilde Lake AT Walkersville Glenelg AT Damascus Massey makes the home teams heavy favorites in Week 11 A collective 22-41 overall record would certainly deem this the weakest 2A West bracket of all-time, producing a winning percentage of just less than 35%, with a two seed at 5-4.

I agree with Massey, there are only two teams in this region capable of making a run.

For a brief contrast of past years and to enforce the point of this trend. I copied these from Neutral's Observers old posts of Week 9 points for 2A West. Beside the win totals the point averages are way down this year. DM end 2023 with 7.3 pts avg. That is good enough for 3rd place only once in last 5 years.
2021 1) 8.7 Glenelg (8-1) 2) 8.2 Oakland Mills (7-2) 3) 7.4 Middletown (7-2) 4) 5.8 Walkersville (6-3) 5) 5.8 Poolesville (6-3) 6) 1.0 Century (1-7) 7) 0.8 Hammond (1-8)
2019 1) 7.9 Middletown (7-2) 2) 7.8 Glenelg (6-3) 3) 7.0 Liberty (6-3) 4) 7.0 Oakdale (6-3) 5) 7.0 Walkersville (6-3) 6) 6.3 Oakland Mills (6-3) 7) 5.8 Century (6-3) 8) 4.7 Seneca Valley (4-5)
2018 1) 12.3 Damascus (10-0) 2) 10.6 Liberty (10-0) 3) 10.5 Oakdale (9-0) 4) 5.70 Century (6-4) (wins tie-breaker 20-19 on bonus points) 5) 5.70 Middletown (6-4) 6) 4.3 South Carroll (5-5) 7) 3.4 Walkersville (4-6) 8) 3.4 Poolesville (4-6) 9) 2.4 Winters Mill (3-7) 10) 2.1 Seneca Valley (2-8) 11 2.0 Williamsport (2-8)
2017 1) 11.9 Damascus (10-0) 2) 11.6 Walkersville (10-0) 3) 10.3 Oakdale (9-1) 4) 8.4 Liberty (8-2) 5) 8.0 Middletown (7-3) 6) 7.0 Williamsport (7-3) 7) 6.3 Seneca Valley (6-4) 8) 5.9 Poolesville (6-4) 9) 4.4 Winters Mill (5-5) 10) 4.2 Century (4-6) 11) 1.6 South Carroll (2-8)

You guys are jumping the gun and counting chickens before the cart ... Walkersville needs to get here act together in more ways then just stop fumbling. In addition to the unsettled QB situation, the defense was not able to make stops with any consistency against Ling, Fred, or West. This causes me great concern! Very true. But, Milford Mill and Decatur might be the only teams in the 2A who are on the same level as Linganore and Frederick. Dmass is still pretty good as well

they have 12 HS so you get to play 9 of the 12. Glenelg has two closer rivals in MR and RH plus they play Howard in the Elgard game so that leaves 6 of the other 8 to play. WL has many more natural rivalries in Columbia and RH You have to admit the Folly Quarter Battle is a catchy name. Probably more appropriate for GL and MR since that road doesnt go to WL but a solid name. WL does not touch the RH district anymore after the redistricting this year. Their proximity rivals would be OM, Atholton and Centennial Howard county does nto schedule with regard to the playoff regions, if anything they schedule anti-region. Instead of playing the teams in their region 2 times in Basketball/baseball like they should they only played them once each last year and played non region schools twice. ALso have to wonder if Centennial will opt out of the playoffs, we'll see what the injury status is in a coupe weeks to find out

The more games Cooley plays the better Dmass will get.

The more games Cooley plays the better Dmass will get. The clear favorite in 2AW. IMO, only team in the region with chance at state.

I don’t think Walkersville is too far behind them. Massey agrees with me: 28-21 Hornets. Unfortunately, I’m starting to think Millford Mill and Decatur are in a league of their own.

Only thing clear to me is DM will go 7-2 and hold #1.

If Walkersville can beat Middletown and finish 5-4, maybe they can move past Wilde via points? Hopefully George can crunch those numbers!

Week 10 ratings prediction below. Includes massey prediction of week 9 games. 2A West 1. Damascus 8.66 2. Glenelg 6.77 3. Wilde Lake 6.00 4. Walkersville 5.44 5. Poolesville 1.00 6. Centennial 0.00 *Smaller score differential among common opponents* 7.Hammond 0.00
Massey has Walkersville knocking off Middletown, but also projects Wilde Lake to beat Long Reach, which is a 4A/3A with 5 wins. That said, Massey makes it only a 16-14 win for Wilde Lake, so that result could easily flip. If Long Reach wins, and Walkersville beats Middletown, then Walkersville would jump to the 3 seed.
Standings if Walkersville beats Middletown, Wilde Lake loses to Long Reach
1. Damascus 8.66 2. Glenelg 6.77 3. Walkersville 5.44 4. Wilde Lake 4.44 5. Poolesville 1.00 6. Centennial 0.00 7. Hammond 0.00
