Previews - Region Final Matchups 4A West Region IIB-CC at Whitman - This will be the third time these two rivals meet this season, having split the season series. Whitman won 58-53 back on January 12th and B-CC got payback on February 16th, beating Whitman 74-62 to win the division.
- Both teams were part of the four way coin flip to determine the second spot in the county title game, with B-CC getting the berth.
- B-CC is arguably the hottest team in the county, finishing the regular season on an eight game win streak and also winning the county championship game.
- Whitman cruised through the regular season before losing two out of the Vikings' final four games (WJ and B-CC).
- Watch for: the three point shooting of Whitman's Farrell and Walsh.
- Watch for: B-CC's double-double threat of Strong-Jacobson and the shot blocking and rebounding of Ndikumana. Bromberger drives the engine with his playmaking abilities.
4A North Region IIRM at Kennedy - RM defeated Kennedy, 89-80 back on January 16th in their only meeting this season.
- Kennedy finished the regular season on a nine game winning streak after starting out 7-4.
- RM finished the regular season losing six of the Rockets' final nine games after starting out 9-2.
- Kennedy lost the four way coin flip for a spot in the county title game.
- This regular season match up was marred by an ugly end of game incident involving a few of Kennedy's players with RM's spectators.
- Watch for: Kennedy's elite scorer Pineda, who can score from multiple levels as well as the Cavs' Kiki blocking shots.
- Watch for: RM's volume scorers Mayo (an outstanding perimeter shooter) and Cooper (who is also a great passer). RM plays great pressure defense; Frazier and Wilson have good instincts for steals.
4A South Region INorthwood at Laurel - Northwood finished the regular season 7-13. While not in the upper half of MoCo, the Gladiators made some positive strides to be more competitive than recent seasons.
- Laurel finished the regular season 11-9, the only team above .500 in the region.
- Northwood did not beat a team with a winning record all season. The Gladiators' best win was over Poolesville (9-11, but a region finalist as well).
- Laurel also did not beat a team with a winning record this season. Best win for the Spartans was a 60-51 victory over a 9-10 Roosevelt team.
- Watch for: Northwood's Alcorn on the glass.
- Watch for: PG 4A 1st teamer Taylor and 3rd teamer Kaloga, along with HM players Brown and Osafo.
3A West Region IIWootton at Blake - Wootton defeated Blake, 62-59 in the regular season finale.
- Blake's regular season ending loss to Wootton snapped the Bengals' 10 game win streak.
- Blake lost to four teams this season, and later played two of those teams again - and beat them (Springbrook and Sherwood).
- Watch for: Wootton's Aze on the boards, Hyde distributing and Idrissa blocking shots.
- Watch for: Blake's Oladotun and Womack all around play.
2A West Region IIHammond at Poolesville - This region is one of only two statewide to have both the #1 and #2 seeds knocked out.
- Hammond is one of only two #5 seeds remaining in the tournament.
- Poolesville (9-11) and Hammond (8-11) were both under .500 in the regular season. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals and face the #1 seed in the 2A (either Gwynn Park or Walkersville/Middletown).
- Poolesville's best win was over Kennedy in the regular season.
- Hammond's best win was over Century in the playoffs.
- Watch for: Smith on Poolesville, both playmaking and on defense.
