A week full of non-division games and some make up games from the snow.
Most significant results from the week:
Monday, 1/22:
Springbrook upset Magruder 64-60. Springbrook has pulled off a few good wins to right the ship somewhat.
Tuesday, 1/23:
Whitman 70, QO 67. Whitman continues to roll along.
Magruder 74, Churchill 62. Magruder bounced back nicely from the loss the previous day.
SV 74, RM 65. Big upset win for SV.
Friday, 1/26:
Kennedy 63, Sherwood 62. Huge win for the Cavs. Kennedy has the talent to hang with anyone.
B-CC 62, QO 50. Tough week for the Cougars.
WJ 74, NW 68.
Division Standings
In case anyone is interested in the division standings, MCPS has five divisions of five teams this season, with every school playing its divisional opponents twice. At the halfway point, here are the division standings (divisional games only):
Central
Whitman leads the division at 3-1.
B-CC, Churchill and Wootton are all 2-2.
WJ is 1-3.
West
Gaithersburg, Northwest and QO are all 3-1.
Clarksburg is 1-3 and SV is 0-4.
East
RM is 3-1.
Sherwood, Blake and PB are 2-2.
Springbrook is 1-3.
South
Kennedy is 4-0.
Blair, Einstein and Northwood are all 2-2.
Wheaton is 0-4.
North
Magruder is 4-0.
Poolesville is 3-1.
Damascus is 2-2.
Rockville is 1-3.
Watkins Mill is 0-4.
Regions - Overall regular season record will determine seeding (holiday tournament results do not count).
4A West I - Looks like this is FredCo's region to lose. I don't think the Frederick teams are unbeatable, but I don't trust the MoCo teams in this region to be able to string together three straight wins to make it out.
Frederick 10-4
Urbana 7-5
TJ 7-6
Northwest 6-5
Clarksburg 2-9
SV 2-10
4A West II - Whitman has been the most consistent, navigating a tough schedule. But B-CC is dangerous. Churchill, WJ and QO have played tough schedules but may not have it in them to take down both Whitman and B-CC.
Whitman 10-2
B-CC 10-3
Churchill 7-5
WJ 7-5
QO 5-6
Gaithersburg 3-10
4A North II - A very top heavy region, with PB, RM and Kennedy all among the upper half of the county. Springbrook is coming on strong now and may work its way into consideration.
PB 10-2
RM 9-3
Kennedy 8-4
Springbrook 7-6
Einstein 4-7
Wheaton 1-10
4A South I - This is arguably the least competitive region in 4A, but one of the teams will advance to states. Northwood and Blair are among the bottom third of MoCo, but anything is possibly when playing out of county competition - particularly against teams that are not highly regarded traditionally in their own counties. Northwood may end up hosting not only one but two home playoff games if the seeding holds up.
Laurel 7-4
Northwood 5-8
Northwestern 3-9
Blair 2-11
Reservoir 1-12
High Point 0-8
3A West II - The top four teams in this region are as deep as any region in the state. The region semifinals and finals will be very competitive and any of the four teams could advance.
Magruder 10-2
Wootton 11-3
Sherwood 10-3
Blake 9-3
Damascus 4-8
Rockville 2-9
Watkins Mill 0-12
2A West II - Mixed regions with teams from four different counties can sometimes provide wild results. Poolesville may not be able to hang with the top half of MoCo but has shown the ability to beat the bottom half. Maybe the Falcons can compete with out of county 2As.
Century 8-3
Poolesville 6-6
Southern-AA 5-5
Wilde Lake 6-7
Hammond 3-7
My Top Ten
As of January 27th; note that this is fluid and there is not much separation between the top 10 teams this year.

3. Sherwood
4. Wootton
5. Blake
6. Paint Branch
7. Richard Montgomery
