“If any team is going to come into Fort Hill and win, you have to first win the weight room,” - CSD Head Coach Toby Peer
Fort Hill dominated the first 44 minutes of the game before their reserves stumbled at bit in the 4th. CSD won the toss and deferred and FH scored on their third play as Deshaun Brown connects with Landon Sensabaugh for a 45-yard touchdown off play action to take a quick 7-0 lead. After a Viking 3 n out, Jabril Daniels scores on a 20-yard run, his 27th TD of the season, to make it 14-0 which is how the 1st qtr ended. Early in the 2nd, Tristan Ross scores from 23 yds out to make it 21-0. With 8:31 left in the half, Daniels scores again on a 10 yd run to make it 28-0. FH added a 25 yd FG late to make it 31-0 at the half. CSD didn't get a first down till under the four minute mark in the half. Brown was 4-6 passing for 102 yds all in the first half.
CSD got the ball to start the 2nd half and once again did nothing with it. At the 7 minute mark, Daniels (11 carries, 103 yds) scored his third td form nine yards out to start the running clock at 38-0 which is how the 3rd qtr ended. Things got a bit bizarre in the 4th. Cambridge had just 66 total yards on 32 plays when the Vikings recovered a fumble by FH reserves and scored with under 4 minutes to play. Next FH series it was rinse and repeat. They lost a fumble and the Vlkings scored quickly. Same with the next Sentinel possession. That made the final 38-20.
Third straight playoff game where FH had at least 10 ball carriers.
When asked if he considered putting his starters back in after the fumbles, Coach Alkire replied “You could hear our fans back there crying,” said Alkire. “Our coaches were like, ‘We’re going to get our first string back in there.’ I said, "No, we’re not. We’re going to let those kids play it out. The game’s in hand. Everyone just relax.”
Fort Hill will meet Mountain Ridge for the 3rd consecutive season for the 1A Championship. Miners beat Perryville 40-14.
