Reservoir’s Adrian ‘AD’ Alvarado set a few program records in the Gators 49-22 win over Severna Park in the opening round of the MPSSAA playoffs last night.
Alvarado set a program post-season single-game record with 237 rushing yards, and became the first Gator to score four touchdowns in a playoff game. Alvarado also set a Gators program single-season touchdown record with his last, pushing him to 18 touchdowns this season, and snapping Avian White’s previous program-best of 17, set in 2013.
Alvarado now has 1,223 rushing yards in ten games this season, ranking fourth and rising on the Gators single-season list, behind White’s program record of 1,672 in 12 games in 2013, Craig Jones’ mark of 1,338 (11 gms) in ‘14, and Josh Young’s total of 1,277 (13 gms) in ‘15.

They’re heeeeere, again. Those demons. The SMAC is putting the SMAC-down on Howard County foes for a second year in a row. Nearly a year after St Charles, at the time the SMAC’s seventh ranked team, shocked the then-undefeated county champion Atholton Raiders, 22-6, in Columbia, in the second round, two other SMAC foes came in town and laid the SMAC-down on a pair of home teams in the first.
Thursday night, Leonardtown, who finished 4-5 in the regular season, clobbered Howard, 42-12, after the Lions finished a game back in the league standings. Not to be outdone, Great Mills, who finished 5-4, took out Long Reach, 26-13, to post the third straight road victory for the SMAC over a HoCo rep’. Reservoir will have the task of turning around that trend when Leonardtown visits Fulton in the second round.

While some teams that start a season 0-6 with three games remaining may send it in, the Oakland Mills Scorpions used it as motivation, winning their fourth game in a row tonight with a 29-6 opening round playoff win on the road at River Hill, the winningest playoff team in county history.
After going winless in their first six games, and going scoreless in weeks five and six, the Scorpions stunned Atholton, snapping the Raiders four game winning streak. The following week, the Scorps went on the road and beat their arch rival, breaking up the Wildecats three game win streak. Then, closed the regular season with a 42-6 win over Hammond.
I, and many beleive the Scorpions will be among the best in the county next year and the following year, but these Scorpions are refusing to look that far ahead. A huge win for coach Thomas Browne, the star receiver on the ‘98 title team. Congrats to him and the staff, including Coach Brian Cole, who graduated two years before Thomas, and was an All-County selection in both football and lacrosse as a Scorpion. Cole is back on the home sidelines on Kilimanjaro for the first time in almost 15 years, after leading the Reservoir program for 13 years. #NoPlaceLikehOMe
