Who's genius idea was to start having jv/varsity double headers on friday nights. JV thursday night games were always pretty cool but who thought of these 330 friday afternoon games?
Worst idea ever in my opinoon

There are certainly many reasons to have games on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays. To answer your question though...
From a staffing perspective (think of it if you were in administration at a school), this makes for a long day, but only one day to cover games.
We also have some coaching staffs that are relatively thin - playing on Thursday night means your coaches are split between the Thursday walk through with Varsity and coaching the JV game.
From a supervision standpoint (again, think if you were in admin), opening your stadium up at 3pm gives students a place to go instead of roaming campus waiting for the 6:30pm game.
Playing Friday afternoon JV games also opens up stadium fields on Thursday and Saturday for Field Hockey and Soccer. In some weeks (like when there is a Jewish holiday), fitting in all three sports' games on a stadium field can be a challenge.
Plenty of reasons why Thursday and Saturday are also great options as well. Just pointing out some positives, from a school's perspective, for Friday doubleheaders.

In Texas -- before my brother and me moved here.... Varsity teams play Friday night or Saturday afternoons. The reason for the mixed schedule is most teams share a bowl stadium with 2-3 other teams. JV teams always play prior to the varsity game. Freshman teams play Saturday mornings. Most schools have at least 2 freshmen teams. Middle School teams play on Thursday nights
